A Walk on the Silk Road
Hop on a camel and join us on a 6,000-kilometer journey from Europe to China! Campers will explore the Silk Road trade networks and learn about the travel experiences of ancient merchants and traders by analyzing artifacts and objects from China, West Asia, South Asia, and Europe. Campers will learn not only about the types of goods traded, like silk precious metals, and spices but also about the ideas exchanged along the Silk Road and how it fueled the spreading of innovations in Asia and Europe, particularly China and Spain. Campers will make a Silk Road map and create their own routes to go from Xi’an to Antioch, put up their own trading station, and negotiate the sale of their crafts!
Linguist Apprentices (Ages 3-5) – Through music and play, campers will develop their conversational skills in a second language. Children will engage in arts and crafts and hands-on projects while learning another language.
Language Ambassadors (Ages 6-10) – Campers will participate in project-based learning activities that will help them connect the foreign language to meaning, providing them the opportunity to develop their conversational skills while learning about fun and interesting topics.
