Small enough that nobody hides
Twelve is the ceiling, not the average. It is small enough for a teacher to catch a misunderstanding the same morning it happens, and small enough that a quiet child still gets asked what they think.

The second pass at the same idea
Not a weekly enrichment class, and not a detour from the curriculum. Spanish time reinforces what children are already learning in math, science, and social studies — the same concept, met again in another language. That second encounter is what makes both the concept and the language stick.

Taught out loud, on purpose
Planning, focus, working memory, starting a hard task, finishing it. Most schools assume children absorb these. We teach them directly, name them, and practice them — because they predict more than any test score does.

Hybrid students follow the same rhythm on the days they’re on campus — they aren’t visitors, and they aren’t in a separate room.

Spanish isn’t parked at the end of the day as an extra: it lands after the English lesson it reinforces, so a child meets fractions, or the water cycle, or a mapping skill a second time — in another language, with different words for the same idea. - 8:30 Arrival & morning meeting Greetings, the day’s plan, and each child naming one thing they intend to finish. Times below are a sample — confirm against the final bell schedule.
- 8:50 Literacy block Reading and writing in small guided groups, pitched to where each child actually is.
- 10:15 Español — bloque uno Native-speaking teachers revisit the morning’s literacy work in Spanish — same story, same ideas, new language. Language as the medium, not the topic.
- 11:30 Lunch & outdoor play Unstructured, outside, mixed ages.
- 12:15 Math Concrete first, then abstract. Children explain their reasoning out loud.
- 1:30 Español — bloque dos Science, social studies, or project work in Spanish, built on the math and reading from earlier the same day. This is where the second hour lives.
- 2:45 Closing circle What got done, what didn’t, and what tomorrow needs. The executive function habit, practiced daily.

Monteverde was founded by the team behind Language Kids World, which has spent 16 years building the largest language-teaching organisation for children in the Houston area — more than 50,000 students have come through its programs, camps and school partnerships. Our founder brings more than 25 years of experience in language education, beginning with the school she established in Mexico City. Before you ask on the tour
Questions families ask first.
Which two days does the Hybrid Program meet?
To be confirmed — the same two days each week, for the full school year, so your homeschool schedule stays predictable.
Doesn’t two hours of Spanish take time away from academics?
It’s the opposite of a trade-off. Spanish time at Monteverde reinforces what children are learning in their other subjects — a science concept from the morning gets revisited in Spanish that afternoon, a math idea gets explained again with different vocabulary. Teachers plan the blocks in tandem so the language work and the academic work carry each other.
Researchers call this language transfer: understanding built in one language moves into the other, in both directions. A child who can explain the water cycle in two languages understands it better than a child who can only explain it in one.
Can my child join if we don’t speak Spanish at home?
Yes, and most of our families don’t. The two hours a day are designed for children who arrive with no Spanish at all, and the take-home materials are written so a parent who doesn’t speak Spanish can still support the work.
Is twelve really the maximum?
Yes. Twelve is a hard ceiling per group, not a target we average toward. It’s the number that makes daily individual attention structurally possible rather than aspirational.
What does “executive function” mean day to day?
It means a child is explicitly taught to plan a task before starting it, notice when they’ve lost focus, hold multiple steps in mind, and evaluate their own work. It’s named in the morning meeting, practiced through the day, and reviewed at closing circle.
Can we use Texas ESA funds?
