Thematic Unit for our Language Immersion Camps and Classes

Giving Thanks Around the World

Welcome to “Giving Thanks Around the World,” a heartwarming Spanish immersion camp where young adventurers will embark on a global journey to explore how different cultures celebrate gratitude! Designed with children in mind, this thematic unit takes campers on a delightful exploration of thanksgiving traditions from around the world, from harvest festivals to unique cultural practices of giving thanks. Filled with fun, creativity, and plenty of Spanish language learning, “Giving Thanks Around the World” is all about appreciating the diverse ways people express gratitude and celebrate the good things in life!

Explore Global Gratitude:

Each day, our young explorers will “travel” to a different part of the world to discover how people give thanks in various cultures. They’ll visit places like Japan, where they’ll learn about “Kinro Kansha no Hi” (Labor Thanksgiving Day), explore the beautiful harvest celebrations of India’s “Pongal” festival, and discover the joyful “Erntedankfest” in Germany. Along the way, they’ll learn how gratitude is expressed in different languages and through different customs, making connections between these traditions and their own experiences.

Immersive Cultural Experiences:

As campers journey through global traditions of giving thanks, they’ll immerse themselves in the rich cultural practices that accompany these celebrations. They’ll create their own gratitude journals, where they can write or draw what they’re thankful for each day, and craft thank-you cards in Spanish to share with family and friends. Campers will also explore traditional crafts associated with Thanksgiving celebrations, such as making colorful harvest-themed decorations.

Interactive and Educational Activities:

“Giving Thanks Around the World” is filled with engaging activities that bring global traditions to life! Campers might participate in a gratitude circle where they share what they’re thankful for in Spanish, create a world map showcasing different Thanksgiving traditions, or engage in role-playing games where they “attend” Thanksgiving celebrations in various countries. They’ll also engage in storytelling sessions where they can share stories of gratitude from their own lives and from the cultures they’ve learned about.

Discovering the Meaning of Gratitude:

In addition to cultural exploration, this camp emphasizes the universal value of gratitude. Campers will learn about the different ways people show appreciation and how these practices help to strengthen communities and relationships. They’ll discuss the importance of being thankful not just on special occasions, but every day, and how gratitude can be expressed through simple acts of kindness and generosity.

Developing Spanish Language Skills and Cultural Awareness:

Throughout their journey of giving thanks, campers will be immersed in the Spanish language. They’ll build their vocabulary with words related to gratitude, festivals, and cultural traditions, and practice conversational skills through interactive games, role-playing, and creative projects. This immersive experience not only enhances their Spanish language abilities but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the diverse ways people around the world express gratitude.

Join us for “Giving Thanks Around the World” and get ready for a week of discovery, creativity, and fun! This camp is the perfect opportunity for young adventurers to learn Spanish, explore the beautiful traditions of giving thanks from different cultures, and make new friends along the way. Whether they’re crafting gratitude journals, participating in cultural celebrations, or sharing stories of appreciation, every day will be an unforgettable journey of learning and thankfulness!
