Time Travelers
Get ready for a journey from China to Europe via the Silk Road. The Chinese used it to trade silk, teas, salt, sugar, and more along the 4,000-mile-long route. Campers will uncover why the trade route was so important while learning another language along the way!
Mythological Beasts – In Chinese culture, the “guardian lions” are believed to have protective powers. However, dragons are the true heroes in Chinese mythology as they are a symbol of good luck and fortune. This week, children will learn all about them in creative ways, while learning a new language.
Festivals and Celebrations – Throughout the year there are many festivals celebrated in China! The main one is Chinese New Year, but there are many that date back to ancient China. The Dragon Boat Festival originated during the Zhou Dynasty while the Lantern Festival came about during the Han Dynasty to honor Buddha. Campers will learn all about them in a fun way while learning a new language.
Linguist Apprentices (Ages 3-5) – Through music and play, campers will develop their conversational skills in a second language. Children will engage in arts and crafts and hands-on projects while learning another language.
Language Ambassadors (Ages 6-10) – Campers will participate in project-based learning activities that will help them connect the foreign language they are learning to meaning, providing them the opportunity to develop their conversational skills while learning about fun and interesting topics.
