Mothers, the universal heartbeat of our families and cultures, play a pivotal role in nurturing and guiding us from infancy through adulthood. Today, let’s take a journey around the world to see how different cultures celebrate and honor these incredible women.
United States
In the United States, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May with breakfast in bed, gifts, flowers, and heartwarming cards. This day is marked by family gatherings and heartfelt thanks to mothers for their tireless dedication to their families.
India
In India, Mother’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on the deeply ingrained respect for mothers inherent in Indian culture. Many celebrate with elaborate meals and gifts, and children often perform tasks typically done by the mother to give her a day of rest.
Mexico
In Mexico, Mother’s Day, or “Día de la Madre,” is celebrated vibrantly on May 10th. Families gather to enjoy music and food, and serenades by mariachi bands are a common tribute to the matriarchs of the family.
Ethiopia
Mother’s Day in Ethiopia is part of the three-day Antrosht festival. During this time, families come together, and daughters traditionally bring vegetables, butter, spices, and cheese, while sons bring meat to prepare a meal for the family.
