Thematic Unit for Spanish Immersion Camps

Early Immersion Session

7:00 AM – 9:00 AM – Optional session, available at some locations.

Supplemental thematic unit: The Amazing Amazon! – The Amazon covers more than 2 million squares miles, and campers are going to learn all about the endangered rainforest, and the exotic animals that make it their home.  While learning about toucans and monkeys, children will also learn a foreign language and discover why it’s important to care for our environment.

Linguist Apprentices (Ages 3-5) – Campers will work on phonetic skills development in small groups, using rhymes and rhythm to further develop their conversational skills.

Language Ambassadors (Ages 6-11) – Campers will use this time to work in small groups to develop reading and writing skills in the target language and practice their conversational skills by talking about the stories they are reading and writing in the second language.

Regular Immersion Session

9:00 AM – 3:00 PM – Required session

Thematic Unit: Adventures in Latin America – Ready, set, go!  This fun-packed week-long summer camp will take your child to an unforgettable journey through Latin America!  Language Kids campers will “visit” a different region each day, learning about different countries’ culture, food, folklore and traditions, natural landscape and much more!  Your child will not only learn another language but also learn the magnificent culture behind it!

Linguist Apprentices (Ages 3-5) – Though music and play, campers will develop their conversational skills in a second language. Children will engage in arts and crafts and hands-on projects while learning another language.

Language Ambassadors (Ages 6-11) – Campers will participate in project-based learning activities that will help them connect the foreign language they are learning to meaning, providing them the opportunity to develop their conversational skills while learning about fun and interesting topics.

Afternoon Immersion Session

3:00 PM – 6:00 PM – Optional session, available at some locations.

Supplemental thematic unit: Brazilian Carnival! – Although Portuguese is the language spoken in Brazil, campers will have a chance to learn about the amazing Brazilian culture. Carnival in Brazil lasts for more than a month, but campers will experience a week of fun and excitement as they discover Samba dancing, the elaborate floats, costumes and much more!  Campers will celebrate carnival all while learning a new language.
